Agra continues to be tense, riots spread to entire city

AGRA, OCTOBER 15 Violence continued for the fourth day in Agra today as riots spread to the rest of the city which till yesterday remained unaffected. With sporadic violence reported across the city, the administration has called in the CRPF.

While the situation was brought under control in areas under Mantola and Rakabganj police stations, rioting spread to the city today, with shops being burnt.

In areas under Jagdishpura Police Station and in Gopalpur area, a number of butcher shops belonging to Muslims were burnt by mobs, said police. In Ramnagar area under Shahganj Police Station, mobs burnt an autorickshaw that was carrying adhesive solution, sources said. However, police reached the place before major damage was done.

SSP Ashutosh Pandey said 24 people have been arrested in connection with the burning of the autorickshaw, while 196 others were held under various charges. Meanwhile, the Agra administration has established a riot control room at the District Collectorate.
